The tin whistle and penny whistle are relatively inexpensive wind instruments used widely in Irish traditional music. The a penny whistle has a molded plastic mouthpiece attached to a cylindrical brass tube with six finger holes. Both are diatonic though accidentals can be played by half covering holes, and are available in different sizes for almost every key. The penny whistle is one of the easiest instruments to play and yet it is still capable of performing amazingly complex songs. Penny whistles are very affordable and there are plenty of tutorials available making it an easy instrument to begin playing traditional music.
