Alana Woods studied piano
for 15 years as a child, learning classical music, including one
year at the Conservatory of Music in Kansas City and later developed
improvisation playing on her own which is her true delight. She has
been playing both classical and Celtic harp for 26 years. Though she
studied piano as a child, the instrument she loved most was the
Celtic harp, which she was able to study as an adult and is now her
personal instrument. She does storytelling with harp as well as some
performances for special events. She is a Certified Music
Practitioner (inactive) from the MHTP program and practices Sound
Healing with an acoustic table for private clients in her home.
Alana currently teaches the
6 week course, "Introduction to Harp" each semester for the UNM
Continuing Education Personal Enrichment Program at Apple Mountain
Music. Alana has had training with the Suzuki method of harp as well
as extensive training with a harp teacher from the University of
Texas at Austin. She has been to several schools of healing and
believes that simple music played well and with the heart is the
most powerful. For private lessons, she requires her students to
have some background in reading music and teaches various types of
music as well as some training in improvisation playing. She also
teaches Autoharp.
